Random thoughts…

This is a post of just what the title suggests. Random, jumbled, semi-organized thoughts…

Ah… a new semester at Biola University. All the familiar sights, sounds, and smells permeate the senses as students new and old arrive on campus… for those of us who are new to the whole idea of college, this is a time that is often accompanied by new-found freedom, wide-eyed wonder, and the laughter of new friendships attained. For those of us returning, it’s more of the same; a return to old routines, a return to the familiar bounties of endless cafeteria food, and a return to classrooms where many have sat before us… generations stretching across the expanse of the past years.

But for now, the past is far from our minds as we contemplate the future. I for one have my mind set on what lies ahead on this path that God has paved. I am one of the fortunate few who has been shown early on a vision of where I want to be two-three years from now. Journalism has been such a rewarding experience so far, and i want to take as much out of it as possible… a whole wide world of convergence is unfurling before our very eyes. Media is constantly debuting the “latest and greatest” things our money can buy. The media is peddling out its wares, and we as one of the first generations to have never lived in a world without computers as we know them now, are becoming desensitized to the blaring noise around us.

And yet, I would say now is the most important time to be aware. It’s those people who stay informed, who keep their eyes open to the greater events around the world that will be able to stay ahead… But that is such big talk for so small a person… sometimes, it’s important to take things easier too.

I’ve been told I am way too hard on myself. It’s true. I beat myself over the smallest of imperfections. But God reminds us constantly that sometimes, it’s the scars that make us who we are and make us unique… that sometimes, rejoicing in the pain, dancing in the rain, or however you want to call it, is the best choice to take.

So here’s to Biola Fall 2010. My friends, live it well and enjoy this time. I’ve heard it said that we have to enjoy our time where we’re at. Let’s keep that in mind; there’s more to life than just tests, GPA’s, and late night In-N-Out runs. Friends, family, and those who care about you and who you care about are going to get you through.

Peace out.
